Acne is a chronic skin disorder affecting people ranging from ages twenty-one through forty and up. Acne can appear as congested pores, whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. Blemishes typically occur where there are oil glands on the face, chest, and back. Women are most affected by acne than anyone else.

When dealing with adult acne it is important to understand the different combinations in which it may stem from. Unlike the more common oily skin in juvenile acne, the adult acne has many combinations from normal to dry, even sensitive. Acne consisting of black heads, pimples, and sebaceous cysts is known as vulgaris acne.

There are several factors can lead to acne in adults, stress being a major contributor. Stress causes the production of the steroidal hormone cortisol which encourages acne. Other factors including caffeine intake, also lead to increased cortisol production. Adult acne may also be caused by smoking, insufficient dietary free fatty acid content and poor diet.

Millions of people are affected by acne all over the world. Many of the over-the-counter products meant for treating acne contain chemicals, which might deteriorate the skin and might only be a temporary remedy.
