My salicylate-free eating regimen that avoids meals that make me itchy

<p> To get it back under control, I officially started a 30-day salicylate-free diet. </p>

<p> You see, salicylates are a protein that occurs naturally in a variety of foods. Patients with autoimmune diseases such as chronic urticaria can have immunological reactions to salicylate proteins. </p>
<p> For me, this reaction manifests itself in intense hives – raised red bumps that spread quickly and are extremely itchy. </p>
<p> However, I find that avoiding salicylates overall is not as easy as you might think at first because they seem to be in absolutely everything! </p>

<p> I'll keep you posted on how I'm doing and whether all of these efforts make a difference to my skin. </p>
<p> People who are sensitive to salicylates may also be sensitive to amines (another nutritional protein), but in each case to an exclusion diet, or I only eat cabbage and maple syrup! </p>
