For our second Bio-September guest post, I met with organic make-up meastro Lou Dartford to find out why she chose organic.
Why choose organic?
I believe that organic products are one of our best options in today's modern world. Not only for our personal health and well-being, but also for that of the planet.
What does an organic lifestyle mean to you?
For me, a biological lifestyle means eating fresh, unprocessed foods that have been grown using sustainable methods without aggressive pesticides. It also means thinking about what you put on your body as well as what is in it.
I don't want to use products that have a list of ingredients as long as my arm contains unspeakable words. I wouldn't eat it, so why should I put it on my skin? I want products that are full of natural goodness rather than a mix of synthesized chemicals that can be suspicious and harmful to health – inside and out.
Do you have any tips for people who are thinking about switching to organic?
The wise choice of your beauty products is an essential part of an organic lifestyle. You don't have to know every single ingredient, you start reading labels, and you'll still learn some of them.
In general, like with food, you want the list of ingredients to be relatively short and simple. It can be a minefield when you start looking for products that have been certified organic to avoid confusion.
Do not try to change everything at once, but switch to organic as your other products are running out. If you test the water, a body lotion is a good place to start. Think about the surface you cover when applying this product – it makes sense to change it.
