Fancy raspberries in January? Nothing is stopping you these days.

The supply of fruits and vegetables in most supermarkets means that we are spoiled for choice – regardless of the season.

But just because we can eat fruits and vegetables all year round, does that mean we should?

Environmentalists and nutritionists are concerned about the lack of nutrients in out-of-season products and are calling for a return to seasonal food.

Here are six reasons why we should consider switching to seasonal fruits and vegetables:

1. Seasonal food provides your body with the right nutrients – when it needs them

Eating foods that are tailored to the current weather conditions strengthens your body with the kindness it needs – at the right time of year.

During the summer months, for example, our bodies long for fruits that contain a lot of water that is needed to maintain hydration.

In autumn and winter, we often tend to use vegetables such as carrots and butternut squash when our bodies naturally require additional beta-carotene.

In these colder months, high amounts of this non-toxic form of vitamin A are quickly absorbed to strengthen our immune system.

<p> Eating the same fruits and vegetables every day? Diversity is the spice of life – and in this case full of much-needed vitamins and minerals. </p>
<p> Seasonal eating and a variable diet mean that the body is pumped with a whole range of nutrients – far more than we are exposed to if we do not expand our selection. </p>
<h3> 3. Seasonal eating can make you less susceptible to allergies and food intolerances </h3>
<p> Our body does not respond well to always processing the same foods. </p>
<p> Mixing our menus benefits the digestive system and reduces the likelihood of food intolerance – which may be due to having too much of one thing. </p>
<h3> 4. The vitamin C level will be highest </h3>
<p> The less time your fruit and vegetables are on the move, the more vitamins can be offered. </p>
<p> It was found that seasonal plants from the region contain up to three times more nutrients than their imported counterparts. </p>
<h3> 5. Quite simply, they taste better </h3>
<p> Flavors are stronger and textures are what they should be! </p>
<p> Wax coatings and chemical washing help the products get overseas and into the aisles of the supermarket – but they certainly don't improve the taste of your food. </p>

<p> The resulting carbon emissions from food imports pollute the environment. </p>
<p> Consuming seasonal products reduces your carbon footprint and brings the feel-good factor (and the health benefits!) To your plate. </p>

<p> Here in the UK, autumn seasonal products are a nice selection of warming vegetables, perfect to combine with a delicious Sunday roast! </p>
<p> Think of carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, parsnips, cauliflower, chestnuts and kale. </p>
<p> For those with a sweet tooth, autumn is the perfect time to enjoy plums, pears, apples and elderberries – ideal ingredients for a delicious crumble. </p>
<h3> <strong> Are you afraid that you won't be able to eat everything that is seasonal quickly enough? </strong> </h3>
<p> The Austrian Consumer Association confirmed that vegetables that are picked and frozen in the season have a higher nutrient content than vegetables that are flown into the country out of season. </p>
<p> So double freshly grown peas, beans and carrots and put half in the freezer. Good news for the cost-conscious: buying seasonal products is also much cheaper. </p>
